The next meeting HAGS meeting will be 6:30 pm Thursday Sept ember 9th, 2010. Ben Edwards of Dickinson College will present: The Vikings Revenge, the saga of how a small Icelandic eruption brought European airspace to its knees.    In the wake of the global financial crisis, which hit the Icelandic economy harder than almost any European nation, two relatively small eruptions from Eyjafjallajökull volcano sent European air travel to the brink. Although this series of Icelandic eruptions was the fifth since 1996, and not really catastrophically larger then the previous four, it had far worse consequences. Why? This talk will focus on the dynamics of lava-snow-ice interactions during the 2010 eruption and explore how such eruptions can pose much more serious local-regional-global hazards than subaerial eruptions. Meeting at GTS Technologies 441 Friendship Road, Harrisburg, PA.
